The Vom Ilghaus Family
« on: December 08, 2006, 07:27:18 PM »
I thought I would share some photos of the gang.

Big brother Karl is in the background watching his two younger brothers, "the twins", Casey on the left and Chase on the right.

Karl's run was just being constructed at this time as in this picture he doesn't even have his pole barn or cement flooring yet.

Does anyone see a common thread in this group of pictures?

and this one

In all three pictures Chase is busy getting all the food while Casey is being nosy.  ;D

I would also like to state at this time that I did not just throw their food out on the cement.  :D  One naughty pup would take it upon himself to dump the food bowl and get it out of the way. Also, each pup would get their own bowl but most times they would eat out of one and then go to the other. It is a fact of puppy life that the other guy's food taste better. Just a couple of meals and then they were separated at meal time so we could monitor amounts eatten by each pup.

As with most brothers, the twins were often fighting with each other.  ::)

Casey on the left and Chase on the right

And now Chase has a turn to bite his brother.

These pictures are good examples of how a sable German Shepherd's coat changes with age. From brown coats with a big black tip on the tail to where these young pups already are getting quite a bit darker over their body.

Here is Chase taking a break from chewing on his brothers.

And Chase and Casey being nice for a picture. I think this is probably the only baby picture I have of them posing together as good pups. Take note that Chase has a stick in his mouth.

Remember that I said the previous picture was the only one I have with them posing together for me. Didn't last long as here Casey is trying to take the stick from Chase.

And here the twins are older and helping "Dad" build a kennel and run for Chase.  Where is Karl? Where a good sheppie should be -- sitting next to Mom. Besides he knows I'll keep those pesky brothers from messing with him.  :)

Here are two picturs of Casey at that fast growing stage between puppyhood and doggy teenager.

And now for Chase at around the same time

Throughout most of the above pictures you can see how a Sable colored German Shepherd's coat changes and now here is Karl, an example of a German Shepherd who is Black & Tan colored.

A sable GSD will get darker with age while a black & tan will lose some or most of the black and the brown areas will enlarge.

Take note also that while the twins both had their ears fully up by 9 weeks of age Karl was older when both of his stayed up and he went through the ears up one day and half mast the next for awhile. Many shepherds will either not have their ears go up fully or have them drop while they are teething and then there are those like Casey & Chase who once they go up they stay up. Just like with people, dogs are individuals and develop at different rates.
